An incalculable number of animal and plants
species have lived on our planet since the beginning of life.
Their remains which appear in our environment are witnesses of life in different geological periods..
The accumulation of fossil remains constitute even today a rich natural source (coal, oil…)
Throughout time, different complex phenomena have caused the process of fossilisation and have produced a diversity of fossil remains.
In the history of our planet, mankind has only occupied a miniscule proportion of that time, and before then billions of species which no longer exist as a result of millions of ears of evolution
-130 million years :
The age of the most former(ancient) grounds is which appear in Luberon, that is which are visible on the surface of the ground. In this time, called CRETACEOUS, (the third and last of the secondary era)
Has sea recover all Provence since 100 million years
Sediments torn away(extracted) in the continent " pyréneo-corso-sarde " ( our current Mediterranean Sea)
The Mountains of are going to accumulate on considerable thicknesses
and will be transformed during times,
in limestone, current skeleton of Luberon and Vaucluse.
At the beginning of the CRETACEOUS the sea is averagely deep, of this time date limestones of Grand Luberon; relativement tendres,
Relatively soft, they are easily modelled by the erosion and explain its slowly hillocky relief.
Further to a decrease of the depth of this sea, due to sediments and to movements of uprising, cliffs are then built in these warm waters .
The mass of Petit Luberon is formed by the rests of these former(ancient) cliffs, very pure, white and hard limestone in which the erosion sculptured abrupt cliffs.
